Wrapped in Goodness: The Story Behind the Puppy Pile Blanket

Love is patient. So is knitting.

Every row, a little prayer. Every stitch, a little joy.
Every row, a little prayer. Every stitch, a little joy.

Especially when you're double-knitting 234 rows of little puppies.

Puppy Pile wasn’t born out of a rush. It came together one peaceful evening at home, when I wanted to knit something that felt like comfort itself. Not fancy. Not fast. Just joyful. Like a blanket full of tail wags and tiny naps.

Here’s the story behind this blanket—and the reminders it whispered into my spirit stitch by stitch.

1. Joy Comes in Layers

Two sides, one heart. A reminder that beauty is often hidden in the process.
Two sides, one heart. A reminder that beauty is often hidden in the process.

John 15:11 — “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

Double knitting creates layers. One side mirrors the other, each reflecting the same design in opposite colors. It’s a picture of how joy works: not surface-level, but built deep within.

Even when you don’t see it, it’s there. Even when the chart is complicated, the joy is woven in.

2. Faithfulness Looks Like Repetition

Galatians 6:9 — “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

This blanket takes time. It's not a sprint. It’s a steady, faithful rhythm—knit, purl, swap yarns, check the chart. Again. And again. And again.

Somewhere around row 100, it stops feeling like work and starts feeling like worship.

3. Comfort Is a Calling

2 Corinthians 1:4 — “Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble...”

This pattern might be called Puppy Pile, but it’s really about people. The ones we make it for. The babies, the friends, the family members who need to know they’re wrapped in more than yarn.

They’re wrapped in prayer. In time. In presence.

4. Practical Beauty Still Counts

Proverbs 31:13 — “She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands.”

The yarns? Acrylic. The colors? Soft but simple. The washing instructions? Machine-friendly. This isn’t a museum piece—it’s a lap blanket. A baby gift. A couch companion.

And that matters. Because real beauty should be used, touched, and lived in.

Looks complex—but just like life and faith, it’s built one step at a time.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes, God gives us a pattern that looks too detailed. But when we follow it patiently, it becomes something we never could’ve imagined. Something comforting. Something joyful.

Something like a pile of puppies.
