Faith & Fibre: What Double Knitting Has Taught Me About God

Faith grows stitch by stitch, just like this study.
Knitting has a rhythm. So does faith. Over time, I’ve come to realize that the quiet work of double knitting mirrors the deeper work God does in our hearts. One stitch at a time. One word at a time. No rush. No waste.
Here are six lessons from my faith study that come alive every time I pick up my needles.
1. Seeds, Words, and Stitches
📖 Proverbs 18:21 NKJV“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
What you say is what you get.
Words are seeds. That truth shows up all through Scripture—and also in my yarn. Every stitch I make is a little seed. It might not look like much at first, but it’s building something that matters. Just like the words we speak over our lives, our loved ones, and our futures.

2. Slow Faith, Strong Foundation
📖 James 1:4 NKJV“But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
If it’s going to last, it’s going to take time. Double knitting is slow. Sometimes very slow. But that’s where the strength comes in. You can’t rush faith, either. It grows steadily—like row after row—until one day you look back and see just how far you’ve come. It’s strong, it’s reversible, and it holds up under pressure.

3. Right-Side, Wrong-Side, and Reversibility
📖 Hebrews 11:1 NKJV“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean God isn’t working. Faith is about trusting what you don’t see. In double knitting, the “wrong” side is still beautiful—it just has a different look. The same is true in life: God is working, even when it looks messy. On the other side of every trial, there's a design taking shape.

4. Renewing the Mind / Repeating the Pattern
📖 Romans 12:2 NKJV“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...”
Practice makes progress—and patterns make habits. Knitting isn’t just with your hands—it’s in your head. When you repeat a pattern enough times, it becomes second nature. Faith works the same way. When we renew our minds with God’s Word, His truth becomes our default. We begin to live from the pattern He’s written for us.

5. Creating with Purpose
📖 Ephesians 2:10 NKJV“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works...”
God doesn’t make random. And neither do I. Every pattern I create has a reason—sometimes it’s a gift, sometimes it’s a picture, sometimes it’s just something joyful. But there’s always a purpose. Our lives are stitched together by the Master Designer, and He never drops a stitch.

6. Confession and Counting Stitches
📖 Hebrews 10:23 NKJV“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
What comes out of your mouth matters. When I knit, I count. If I don’t, I’ll lose the pattern. Same with my words. When I speak God’s promises out loud, I stay in alignment. Confession isn’t just about admitting wrongs—it’s about agreeing with what’s right. It keeps us on pattern with the truth.

Final Thoughts
Faith and fibre might seem like two separate worlds, but they’re not. Both involve patience, focus, repetition, and love. Both create something beautiful—one in your hands, the other in your heart.
