Mountain Lake Throw
A reversible double-knit blanket pattern with a scenic mountain design
Some patterns start with yarn. This one started with a nephew.
Jordan was one of the quiet ones—gentle, thoughtful, with a kind of stillness to him even as a boy.
We don’t talk often now. Life moves, kids grow, families form. But in my memory, I can still see that same quiet kid, always content to wander a little off the path and just be.
One day, I told him, “You’re next. I’m making you a blanket.”I asked what he liked. He thought for a moment and said, “I like nature.”
So that was it. Mountains. Water. Calm. A place where the sky mirrors the lake and the world feels still again. I told him to imagine his camp tucked at the water’s edge. To catch a fish. Light a fire. Watch the stars come out. And that’s what I tried to knit.
This is the Mountain Lake Throw, a pause in your hands and a view across your lap.

A lakeside retreat, one stitch at a time

About the Pattern
This reversible double-knit blanket pattern with scenic mountain design uses just two colors and simple knit/purl stitches to create a rich, peaceful scene. Fully charted and reversible, it’s perfect for knitters who love both process and presence.
I use 100% acrylic yarn and 4.5 mm needles to make a fully detailed throw, but with fewer stitches and rows. Acrylic makes this throw fully usable and easy to care for. Because it's made to be used.
Color Inspiration
Each colorway tells its own story. Try:
🌲 Green & Cream – for a forest-fresh feel
❄️ Blue & White – like an early mountain morning
⚫ Black & White – for bold, modern contrast
Why I Knit
I knit this because Jordan asked for nature.
But more, I knit it because sometimes we all need that quiet place. You can’t always drive there, but you can reach it with yarn, time, and intention.
Some rows are forest.
Some are water reflections.
Some is the space between people who love each other, even from a distance.
